These needles are commonly used to irrigate, dispense or extract precise amounts of gases, pastes or liquids through side ports in industrial, laboratory and medical applications. These needles have a wide range of end uses, from application tools on factory assembly lines to components of spinal surgical equipment. Pencil tips are produced using a process called rotary forging, which reduces the outer and inner diameter of the tube, a cold forming process that can be applied to almost any alloy that can be worked. Most commonly, casing is produced using 304 or 316 stainless steel tubing. The tip provides a tip that can pierce a membrane or septum without coring or plugging the lumen of the cannula and, in some cases, creating a self-sealing entry.
